Why Airbnb is the Only Way You Should Travel

Hi everybody!

For the past six years I have been addicted to traveling across Europe. I've picked up a lot of tips and tricks during that time. What I learned the most was to not stay at hotels (if I was staying for more than two days) during my travels! If you want to completely immerse yourself in the culture of where you are staying at, then stay in an apartment. Why? Hotels give you that touristy-feel. These hotels make you feel like you are traveling by giving you certain amenities such as, room service and maid service. To feel like you are a part of the city you must get your own food and do your own bed. Simple as that ;) What better way to explore the city by waking up early in the morning to find a local bakery housing sweet treats and good eats? My point is, you travel for experiences and renting an apartment will immerse you further into those experiences.

That's where Airbnb comes into play. Airbnb is an easy way to rent homes and apartments across the globe. Millions of people search for unique experiences through this site. Want to rent a traditional houseboat in Amsterdam? Airbnb has it. Want to rent a farmhouse in the middle of the Austrian Alps? Airbnb definitely has it. Throughout this Europe trip I was able to easily rent a houseboat and apartments.

Yes, I rented a houseboat in Amsterdam! Talk about an experience! :) In the middle of the Jordaan district, the best area to stay in Amsterdam, there was this houseboat rocking in the Amstel river. This is probably the most unique place I've stayed at. If you are interested in traveling to Amsterdam, I recommend staying in a houseboat. Here is the link to some places located in Amsterdam.

Below are photos of the houseboat I rented:

Exploring Amsterdam in My Fave Dress

Meet my favorite dress! <3
This For Love + Lemons beauty went on my travels with me. I am obsessed with the design of this dress. The lace inserts are sexy. and the embroidered flowers are trendy. In fact, half of the back of this dress is lace. LOVE! And that red is just WOW!!! Everything about this dress is stunning! It's definitely an investment piece well worth purchasing.

Visited the famous I Amsterdam sign in this dress. It was definitely a stand-out against the bright white letters.

What to Expect in Amsterdam :: 5 Tips for Travelers

For those of you curious about going to Amsterdam, I have made a list of useful things you should expect when visiting (and when traveling in general):

  1.  Expect to be bombarded by bikes 24/7! Amsterdam is home to the largest amount of bikers in the world. There are approximately 16,600,000 people inhabiting the Netherlands and about 16,500,000 bikes in the area. With that fact, tourists need to respect the bikers space and remain alert at all times. I'm not gonna lie, I was close to getting rammed many times during my trip. Tip: Don't jaywalk and look both ways before crossing,,, multiple times.
  2. Get your tickets for the Anne Frank House three months prior to your trip. The Anne Frank House is a hot commodity. It is a definitely must to go see. You do not want to be waiting outside for three hours to get inside. To avoid the lines in total, get your tickets at least three months in advance!
  3. Bring a jacket! Yes, even if you go during the summer months, When I went in June to Amsterdam, I was expecting it to be pretty bearable (somewhere in the 70's). Well, I was wrong. The days were pretty chilly and sometimes windy. I would recommend to bring a jacket and an umbrella.
  4. Use Yelp to find good restaurants. Both locals and tourists use Yelp to give their honest review on restaurants in town. The last thing you want to do is get stuck in a tourist trap and have to pay a lot of money for one meal (trust me, it's happened to me before. No joke, I paid 300 euros for a fish in Italy). Ever since my crazy experience in Italy, I have used Yelp. It has not let me down!
  5. Lastly, make sure you have an itinerary set with reservations and all. In Amsterdam, I wasn't as on my game and decided to go with the flow. Well, I lost out on many opportunities (one was getting the chance to ride bikes near the windmills. Bummer). Make sure you research ahead of time and make reservations. Oh, and please ride bikes near the windmills for me. *Sigh*
